GPTKit Alternatives: What Else Handles a Detection Job This Small

GPTKit is a lightweight detector with unusually cheap paid plans and unusually small request limits. People go looking for an alternative when they hit the character cap, need a language other than English, or want something built around documents rather than a text box. Here is the landscape.

GPTKit's published limits, in full

GPTKit is operated by Dreamsoft Innovations, per its site footer. The homepage identifies the current build as "GPTKit: Detect AI Generated Text v3" and states: "We use 6 different methods for detection with accuracy upto 93%. First 2048 characters are free for guest users. Register to increase the character limit." A prompt underneath asks for "more than 50 words" for better results (gptkit.ai, checked 16 August 2026).

The plans page publishes the following. Prices are in US dollars, and the annual toggle is labelled "Bill Annually (40% - Limited Time Offer)".

PlanMonthlyAnnualCharacters per requestRate limitTeam members
Free Plan$0$02,0485 requests/minn/a
Unlimited (Personal)$5$36, listed against $5110,24010 requests/minup to 2
Unlimited (Team)$10$72, listed against $10330,72020 requests/minup to 8
Unlimited (Institution)$20$144, listed against $206153,60025 requests/minup to 20

All three paid tiers list "Unlimited Credits" and "Faster Processing Speed". API access appears in the feature lists for Team and Institution, and does not appear in the Personal feature list (gptkit.ai/plans, checked 16 August 2026).

Two other published facts shape whether it fits. On language, the FAQ is one sentence: "Currently English is supported." On data handling: "We temporarily store the data for processing purposes. Once the detection process is complete, the content is immediately removed from our servers."

The accuracy figure is the company's own. Its FAQ states the detector "is trained on 1 Million datasets" and "currently has an accuracy of approximately 93%, as determined through testing with a dataset of 100K+ responses from both humans and Chat GPT". That is a vendor claim measured on a private dataset, and no vendor on this page has been scored against the others on anything public.

Where GPTKit is still the better choice

On price, it is the cheapest paid detector covered here by a wide margin. Unlimited (Personal) at $36 a year is less than half what most competing entry tiers cost annually, and it removes the guest character ceiling. If your requirement is "a detector that does not nag me, for the price of a sandwich a year", the comparison genuinely stops there.

The Institution tier deserves a second look for departments. At $144 a year it publishes a 153,600 character limit per request, which is a long dissertation chapter in one submission, plus up to 20 team members with shared credits and API access. Very few tools let twenty people share a detection budget at that number.

Credit sharing is a real structural advantage. Its FAQ confirms you can "create a team and invite others to join. The credits of your team will be shared across all members." Tools that price per seat cost far more for a group of eight who each check a few documents a month.

The guest allowance is also frictionless. Two thousand characters, no account, no email, five requests a minute. For a quick sanity check on a paragraph, that is the shortest path in this category.

Where it runs out

The free tier's 2,048 characters is roughly 300 words. That is enough for an abstract and not enough for an essay, so the practical experience of GPTKit's free plan is repeated chunking.

English-only is a hard stop for anyone marking multilingual work. And the site's framing is still shaped by the era it launched in: the homepage and FAQ describe classifying text as "human- or chatgpt-generated", and the accuracy testing is described against "responses from both humans and Chat GPT" specifically. It does not publish coverage claims for Claude, Gemini or Llama output the way some competitors do. That is not a failing, it is a scope statement, but it is one you should read before assuming it covers whatever generated your suspect text.

The output is also a single figure rather than a per-sentence breakdown, and there is no published PDF export or shareable report.

Where we come in, and what we will not claim

Our detector is an English-only ensemble of DeBERTa, RoBERTa and ELECTRA. Like GPTKit, it will not help you with Spanish or Arabic submissions. Unlike GPTKit, we publish a specific weakness: the ensemble carries a false-positive bias against writers who learned English as a second language. If your students are largely ESL, that bias belongs in your decision, and no price comparison outweighs it.

On limits, the anonymous box runs 3 checks a day pooled across the AI Detector and the Document Detector, capped at 1,000 words, minimum 25 words in. A free account raises it to 60 checks a day at up to 5,000 words. Scores read in three bands, under 30 "likely human-written", 30 to 69 "mixed signals", 70 and above "likely AI-generated".

We are more expensive than GPTKit and there is no way to present that otherwise. Starter is $9.99 a month or $7.49 annually, roughly $90 a year against GPTKit's $36. What that buys is a different job: sentence-level analysis and PDF export from Starter, 200 checks a day, and file upload, URL scanning and bulk scanning across the paid range. Pro at $19.99 or $14.99 annual drops the daily cap and adds a Chrome extension, scan history and a REST API. Business at $39.99 or $29.99 annual adds teams and branded reports, and Enterprise is $79.99 or $59.99 annual.

If you need a number and nothing else, GPTKit's Personal tier is better value than ours. If the number has to become a document that someone else reads, that is the line where the tools separate.

Deciding in one minute

Checking short passages occasionally, in English, alone: GPTKit's free tier or our anonymous box, both at no cost. Department of eight to twenty people who each check a handful of files: GPTKit's Team or Institution tiers, on price. Anyone who has to attach evidence to a case, scan PDFs, or call an API from a grading system: neither free tier reaches, and you are choosing between paid plans on features rather than price. Non-English submissions: neither, and Detecting AI is the only tool here publishing multi-language coverage.

GPTKit alternatives, frequently asked.

Is GPTKit free?
There is a free tier. Its homepage states "The first 2048 characters in every request will be free" for guest users, and its plans page lists a Free Plan at $0 with 2,048 characters per request and 5 requests per minute (gptkit.ai and gptkit.ai/plans, checked 16 August 2026).
How much does GPTKit cost?
Its plans page lists Unlimited (Personal) at $5/month or $36/year, Unlimited (Team) at $10/month or $72/year, and Unlimited (Institution) at $20/month or $144/year, with per-request character limits of 10,240, 30,720 and 153,600 respectively (checked 16 August 2026).
How accurate is GPTKit?
The company states approximately 93% accuracy, determined against its own dataset of 100K+ human and ChatGPT responses. That is its published claim, not an independently measured result.
Does GPTKit have an API?
API access is listed in the feature lists for the Team and Institution plans, and is not listed for Personal (gptkit.ai/plans, checked 16 August 2026).
Does GPTKit work in other languages?
No. Its FAQ states "Currently English is supported."
Does GPTKit keep my text?
Its FAQ states text is stored temporarily for processing and removed from its servers once detection completes.
