NeuralWriter Alternatives: What It Gives Away Free, and What It Leaves Unstated

NeuralWriter runs a paraphraser and an AI content detector, both free, both without an account, both in dozens of languages. Two things send people looking elsewhere: the detector forwards your text to five outside services, and nothing you check is kept.

What NeuralWriter is, as of today

Checked 16 August 2026. https://neuralwriter.com/ returns HTTP 200 and loads a working paraphraser as the homepage product: free, 10,000 character limit, no registration, "3 Specific AI-Modes", "30+ Languages". The interface is localised into roughly 28 languages. Around it sit a translator, summariser, headline generator, prompt generator, word counter, image tools and a paraphrasing API.

Their terms name "NeuralWriter" as the provider, with a contact address of "Eixample, 08013 Barcelona, Spain". No registered company name, company number or VAT identifier appears in them.

The detector is live at https://neuralwriter.com/content-detector-tool/. Note the path: /ai-detector/ returns 404, which trips up anyone guessing the URL.

The five-engine design, and what it actually means for you

This is the unusual part of NeuralWriter and the reason the page deserves a serious read.

Their detector page states it does not run a model of its own. Instead: "You paste up to 10,000 characters, hit Analyze, and the tool runs the same text through five leading AI detectors at once: QuillBot, ZeroGPT, Originality.ai, Copyleaks, and Winston AI." Each returns a probability, and NeuralWriter averages them into one verdict, banded as HUMAN at 15 percent or below, MIXED in between, and AI above 40 percent. Sentences are underlined green, yellow or red, and five cards show each engine's own result alongside the consensus.

Published limits: up to 10,000 characters per check, roughly 1,500 to 1,800 words by their own estimate, with a 20 character minimum. Their stated reason for the floor is that shorter snippets cannot be classified reliably, which is more candid than most.

On accuracy, their page says any single one of those five engines "sits around 85 to 95% on standard benchmarks" and that averaging them reduces false positives and false negatives. That is their claim about third-party engines, reported as their claim. It is not a measurement we have made and not comparable to any other figure here, because nobody is running a shared benchmark.

The design consequence people miss: your text leaves NeuralWriter. To get five scores, it has to reach five companies. NeuralWriter says "We don't store the text you analyze beyond the time needed to return a result", which describes NeuralWriter's retention, not what the five downstream services do with what they receive. For a client draft under NDA, that is the fact to weigh. It is the trade the product makes, and it is disclosed rather than hidden.

Two lines on the site that do not agree

The top of the detector page reads: "No sign-up, no credit card, no daily quota games." Further down, in the same page's FAQ: "Yes. No sign-up, no credit card. There's a soft daily limit out of the box. Install our free Chrome extension and checks become unlimited."

A soft daily limit is a quota, and its number is not published. Their Chrome extension is offered as the way past it, which is worth knowing before you plan forty checks in an afternoon.

What NeuralWriter does not publish

Their terms state: "NeuralWriter offers subscription-based access to the Services. Users may choose between recurring or non-recurring payment plans." Subscriptions therefore exist as a legal matter.

There is no pricing page. Checked 16 August 2026, every obvious route returns 404: /pricing, /plans, /premium, /subscription, /upgrade and /price, and the homepage carries no pricing link. So the terms describe paid plans whose names, prices and allowances are published nowhere on the site. Also unpublished: the value of the soft daily limit, and any per-language detail behind "30+ languages".

Where NeuralWriter is still the better choice

Your text is not in English. This is decisive and it is not close. NeuralWriter claims coverage across 30 or more languages including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Ukrainian. Our detector is English-only and cannot answer at all on a Polish or Ukrainian document. If that is your text, use NeuralWriter.

You want more than one opinion. Any single detector can be confidently wrong. Seeing five scores disagree is useful information a single-model tool cannot show you by construction. When four engines say human and one says AI, you have learned something real about how fragile the verdict is.

You want paraphrasing and detection in one place. The paraphraser is the flagship product, free, in 30 or more languages. If your work is rewrite then check, that adjacency saves you a tool.

You want it free with no account, and the text is not confidential. No email, no card, no confirmation step, and if the text is already public or yours, the five-engine fan-out costs you nothing.

If you are a casual user with non-English text and nothing to prove afterwards, stay where you are.

Where the free, stateless model runs out

Nothing survives the tab: consensus verdict, five engine scores and sentence colours are gone on close, so if a client challenges a deliverable next month, a screenshot is all you have. Long documents have to be chopped, since NeuralWriter's own guidance is to split anything longer into 10,000 character chunks. And confidential material has nowhere to go, because the product's core feature is precisely what makes it unusable on text you cannot share with five outside services.

Where TextSight fits

The box at the top of this page is ours, and the differences are narrow rather than sweeping.

Anonymously it allows 3 checks per day, pooled across our AI Detector and Document Detector, at up to 1,000 words a check, with a 25 word minimum. We publish that number rather than calling it soft. Output is banded: under 30 reads "likely human-written", 30 to 69 reads "mixed signals", 70 and above reads "likely AI-generated". Bands resist over-reading in a way a decimal does not.

A free account raises that to 60 checks a day at 5,000 words, and every signed-in scan is written to Scan History. Scan History is not a paid feature and never has been. Free accounts have it. That is the one thing a deliberately stateless tool cannot offer.

Paid plans, annual billing 25 percent below monthly: Starter $9.99 or $7.49 annual adds sentence-level analysis, PDF export and 200 checks a day. Pro $19.99 or $14.99 annual adds unlimited checks, a Chrome extension and a REST API. Business $39.99 or $29.99 annual adds teams and branded reports. Enterprise is $79.99 or $59.99 annual. File upload, URL scanning and bulk scanning come with paid plans.

One structural difference: we run our own models rather than forwarding your text to five other companies. One opinion instead of five, and the text does not fan out.

English only, and the cost of that

Our detector is an ensemble of DeBERTa, RoBERTa and ELECTRA, trained on English, with a known false-positive bias against people who learned English as a second language. Careful, formally constructed English is exactly what these models associate with machine generation. Against a tool claiming 30 or more languages, this is our weakest point. If your writers are multilingual or ESL, no score from us should be treated as a finding about a person.

NeuralWriter alternatives, frequently asked.

Is NeuralWriter's AI detector free?
Yes. Their page states no sign-up and no credit card are required. Their FAQ also states there is a soft daily limit, whose value is not published, and offers their free Chrome extension as the route to unlimited checks.
Does NeuralWriter run its own detection model?
No. Their page states it runs your text through QuillBot, ZeroGPT, Originality.ai, Copyleaks and Winston AI simultaneously and averages the five results into one verdict.
Is NeuralWriter safe for confidential text?
They state they do not store analysed text beyond the time needed to return a result. That covers NeuralWriter only. The five downstream engines still receive your text, and their retention is governed by their own policies.
What does NeuralWriter cost?
Their terms reference recurring and non-recurring payment plans, but no prices are published on the site. Every standard pricing path returned 404 on 16 August 2026.
Should I use a detector score to accuse someone?
No. False positives are real in every tool, and they land disproportionately on non-native English writers. A score is a reason to ask questions and look at drafts, not a conclusion.
