TraceGPT Alternatives: Pick by Who You Are Buying For

Before comparing anything, settle one thing: are you buying for an institution with a learning management system, or for yourself? TraceGPT is built for the first case. Almost every tool people suggest as a swap is built for the second, which is why those comparisons usually go badly.

A note on where these facts come from

When checked on 16 August 2026, tracegpt.com did not accept connections from our network, so nothing on this page is sourced from that domain. Every figure below comes from PlagiarismCheck.org, the company that operates TraceGPT, on its own live product page at plagiarismcheck.org/ai-detector and its pricing page at plagiarismcheck.org/pricing. If tracegpt.com loads for you, treat it as the primary reference over anything written here.

What PlagiarismCheck.org publishes about TraceGPT

The product page describes an AI detector that examines "perplexity & burstiness" through natural language processing, looking for predictive text patterns typical of large language models. Its published claims and capabilities, verbatim or close to it:

  • An accuracy claim of "99% accuracy", accompanied by the caveat that no AI detection tool can guarantee 100 percent certainty
  • Handling of text "up to 97 pages"
  • Sentence-level analysis rather than a single document score
  • Detection of paraphrased content
  • Optical character recognition, so images of text can be submitted
  • Combined plagiarism scanning alongside AI detection
  • Languages including English, Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese, described as among many others
  • LMS integrations for Canvas, Moodle, Google Classroom, Schoology, Brightspace, Blackboard and Populi
  • A Google Docs add-on, a Chrome extension, and an API
  • Prices described as starting "at $2.08/month"

The 99 percent figure is the vendor's own claim about its own product. Nobody has measured it against a shared public benchmark alongside its competitors, so read it as a marketing position rather than a result.

The pricing question, answered honestly

The $2.08 a month starting figure appears on the AI detector page. The main pricing page at plagiarismcheck.org/pricing tells a different story for organisations: the two organisational tiers, Advanced and Pro, both show "Request quote" rather than a price. Uptime of "99.99%" is published; the cost is not.

That is normal for institutional software and it is not a criticism. It does mean two practical things. You cannot compare TraceGPT to a self-serve tool on price without a sales conversation first. And the buying cycle is a procurement cycle, with the timeline that implies. If you need something working this afternoon, quote-only pricing is itself the reason you are on this page.

Where TraceGPT is still the better choice

Several of these are genuinely hard to replace, and if any apply, switching is likely a mistake.

Your assessments live in an LMS. Seven named LMS integrations is a serious list. When detection runs inside the submission flow that instructors already use, it gets applied consistently to every submission. A separate web tool gets applied to the submissions someone already suspected, which is a different and worse process.

You need plagiarism and AI detection in one result. These are distinct problems that arrive together on the same essay. Running two vendors means two reports, two interfaces and a manual reconciliation. PlagiarismCheck.org sells the combined scan as the core product, and most AI-only detectors, including ours, do not do plagiarism at all.

You take submissions as photographs or scans. The published OCR support means a phone photo of a handwritten or printed page can enter the pipeline. Very few detectors accept image input.

You assess work in Chinese, Spanish or Portuguese. Published multilingual support is uncommon and it is the single clearest reason not to switch to an English-only tool.

You need an institutional contract. A named vendor, an uptime figure, a signed agreement and a support channel are what a procurement office and an academic integrity committee require. A monthly card payment on a consumer SaaS is not the same instrument, whatever its feature list says.

The alternatives, sorted by buyer

If you are an institution

Stay in this category. Look at other institutional integrity vendors that publish LMS integrations and will sign an agreement. Do not shortlist a consumer detector because it looked cheaper; you will lose the integration, the plagiarism half, and the contract.

If you are an individual who landed on an institutional product

You have more room. Free ad-supported detectors handle a spot check at zero cost. SmallSEOTools' AI Content Detector page stated "Up to 2000 Words will be used" with no registration and no charge (smallseotools.com/ai-content-detector, checked 16 August 2026). PrePostSEO runs a comparable free detector; its page source sets a MAX_WORD_LIMIT of 2000 (prepostseo.com/ai-content-detector, checked 16 August 2026). Neither keeps a record of what you checked, and neither produces an export.

Paid individual tools sit between those and the institutional vendors. AI Detector Pro publishes a free tier of 3 AI scans a month and paid tiers listed at "$27.98 $13.99 with 50% off" monthly for Basic (aidetector.pro/pricing, checked 16 August 2026), bundling detection with a rewriting tool.

One tool that used to belong in this list no longer does. contentdetector.ai, previously a free standalone detector, returned an HTTP 301 redirect to moxby.com/marketplace/ai-content-detector when checked on 16 August 2026, where the detector is now listed as a Moxby marketplace mod requiring a Pro plan. If someone recommends it to you, that recommendation is out of date.

Where TextSight sits

TextSight is a self-serve English detector with team and reporting features. Pricing is published rather than quoted: Starter $9.99 a month or $7.49 billed annually, Pro $19.99 or $14.99, Business $39.99 or $29.99, Enterprise $79.99 or $59.99, with annual saving 25 percent.

The box at the top of this page works with no account. Anonymous, you get 3 checks a day pooled across the AI Detector and the Document Detector, capped at 1,000 words. A free account gives 60 checks a day at 5,000 words. Starter allows 200 a day; Pro and above are unlimited. Minimum input is 25 words. Results band as under 30 "likely human-written", 30 to 69 "mixed signals", 70 and above "likely AI-generated".

Sentence-level analysis and PDF export start at Starter. Chrome extension and REST API start at Pro. File upload, URL scan and bulk scan are available, and teams plus branded reports come with Business.

Two honest limits against TraceGPT specifically. TextSight does not do plagiarism detection, so it cannot replace a combined scan. And the detector is English-only, an ensemble of DeBERTa, RoBERTa and ELECTRA with a known false-positive bias against writers who learned English as a second language. In a school with international students, that bias is not an abstract concern, it is the exact failure mode that produces an unfair accusation. Against a vendor publishing Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese support, this is a clear point against us.

TraceGPT alternatives, frequently asked.

Is TraceGPT free?
The AI detector page advertises plans starting at "$2.08/month" rather than a free tier, and organisational plans on the pricing page are quote-only (checked 16 August 2026).
Who owns TraceGPT?
PlagiarismCheck.org, which sells plagiarism and integrity tooling to institutions.
Is TraceGPT's 99 percent accuracy claim verified?
It is the vendor's own published claim. There is no shared public benchmark on which these tools have been measured side by side, so no accuracy number in this category, including any competitor's, should be treated as independently confirmed.
Can an individual buy TraceGPT?
The site references individual and business categories alongside organisations, but the visible organisational tiers require a quote. Contact the vendor for current individual terms.
Does TextSight replace TraceGPT for a university?
No. There are no LMS integrations, no plagiarism scanning, and the detector is English-only with a bias against non-native English writers. For institutional assessment, that combination is disqualifying.
What should a detector score actually be used for?
As a prompt to look more closely, never as a verdict on its own. Every tool on this page can be wrong about a specific passage, and none of them can prove authorship.
